ASAS RC SINK PPTD PATRIOTS TO WIN PUTRAJAYA RUGBY TITLE

ASAS Rugby Club won the Putrajaya Rugby League after defeating PPTD Patriots 19-8 in the cup final. It was a sweet revenge for the Alam Shah Oldboys who had lost to the Patriots in the group stage two weeks ago.

The first half of the cup final at the Alamanda Rugby Field was very tight. Both sides had difficulties to take the lead. However, PPTD Patriots managed to break the duck in the 28th minute with a well taken penalty by Ammil Aizat Jasmi. The score remained until the break.

The chances were still wide open for both in the second half. ASAS RC looked more confidence right after the match was resumed. They got a try in the 41st minute through Amirul Aiman Ihsan, and Mohd Hazreen Harun made no mistake to score the conversion. PPTD Patriots were back in front after a try by Muhammad Othman Danial.

The crowd finally get to watch the true ASAS performance, which had taken them to the Malaysia Rugby League (MRL) final last season. Arif Hakimi Mohd Nazil put them ahead again with a try in the 61st minute. Three minutes later, Amirul got his second try of the evening before Hazreen scored the conversion. Patriots tried to make a late come back, but ASAS RC held on to claim the championship.

In other matches held earlier, Bangi Hunters beat SAAS Woriyo 31-6 to win the Plate category, Kajang Rams clinched the Bowl after defeating Qubyx Lions 28-19, and Miat Falcons beat Scorpions Putrajaya 24-7 for the Shield.
