JIMENEZ, THONGCHAI SHARE EURASIA CUP JOY

The emerging strength of Asian golf was for all to see when Team Asia completed a remarkable comeback to share the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM with Europe on Saturday.   Trailing 0-5 after the opening fourball session and 3-7 after Friday's foursomes, Team Asia, who was captained by three-time Order of Merit winner Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, dug deep and showed their fighting spirit by winning six matches and halving two matches to tie the match at 10-10 for a share of the spoils with Team Europe at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club . Thongchai hailed the courageous fight back from his team and was delighted with their never-say-die attitude. “I’m really proud of my team as they did a really good job by winning seven points today. It was a very good comeback and we showed that we can never be written off,” said Thongchai. The decorated Thai, a 13-time Asian Tour winner, led by example by defeating Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell 3&2.   “

VETTEL, MÁRQUEZ HONOURED AT LAUREUS

Three of the most exciting young sports stars of their generation, who have proved world-beaters despite their age, have been honoured at the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Germany’s Sebastian Vettel , the youngest four-time Formula One world champion in history at 26, was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, US swimmer Missy Franklin , at 18, became the youngest ever winner of the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award, while Spain’s Marc Márquez received the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year Award, after winning the World MotoGP Championship at just 20 years and 266 days. There was double delight for both Germany and Spain when the Awards were announced. Bayern Munich joined Vettel as winners, taking the Laureus World Team of the Year Award, while tennis maestro Rafael Nadal received the Laureus Comeback Award to celebrate, with Márquez, a wonderful night for Spanish sport. TEAM ASIA HEROIC COMEBACK HOLDS TEAM EUROPE AT EURASIA CUP

EURASIA CUP: TEAM ASIA 10(7) - TEAM EUROPE 10(3) A stunning fight back from Team Asia saw the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM end in a 10-10 draw after a thrilling final day at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club on Saturday. Trailing 3-7 overnight going into the singles session  and having been 0-5 behind after the first day’s fourball session, not many gave Thongchai Jaidee’s team much realistic hope of turning matters around. But they did just that, winning the session 7-3 to see the gleaming silver trophy shared with Miguel Angel Jiménez’s European troops at the end of the day.   Asian captain Thongchai got Asia off to the perfect start with a 3 & 2 win over 2010 U.S. Open Champion Graeme McDowell. Jiménez, who was one of only two outrights winners for Europe when he nervelessly holed an eight foot birdie putt on the final green to beat a luckless Malaysian home favourite Nicholas Fung in the first match. SIME DARBY CLAIMS VICTORY OVER ATM

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: SIME DARBY 3 - ATM 2 Sime Darby FC secured a win to lift them off from the bottom of the Malaysia Super League table in an exciting match against struggling ATM 3-2. The Gladiators started off well when Bruno Martelotto scored an early goal for ATM. Arif Ismail equalised for Sime Darby in the 29th minute when he slots in a good pass from Juzaili . The score remained at 1-1 until the first half whistle. ATM came back stronger in the second half and they added the second goal from Juan Arostegui in the 55th minute. The home side took control of the game after the goal and William Mensah equalised in the 60th minute as he scored from the rebound after Syed Adney spilled Yosri's freekick.  Mahmoud Al Amna scored the winner for Sime Darby five minutes later. MALAYSIA PREMIER LEAGUE: FELDA UTD 5 - PERLIS 1 Felda United took full advantage of playing on their home ground by demolishing Perlis in a Malaysia Premier League match on Friday. Edward Junior Wilson claimed a hattrick after scoring in the 7th, 10th and 14th minute. Perlis Dao Bakary found the net in the 16th minute to reduce the deficit. However, Makeche Ndumba scored Felda's fourth goal of the night right before the break. Solihin Kanasian completed Felda United 's goal fest when he found the net right before the final whistle. TEAM ASIA ROARS BACK ON EURASIA CUP SECOND DAY

EURASIA CUP: TEAM ASIA 3(3) - TEAM EUROPE 2(7) Team Asia picked up two wins and two halves from five foursomes matches at the EurAsia Cup today. South Korea's Kim Hyung-sung and Prayad Marksaeng of Thailand earned Team Asia's first point as they won 4 ups with 3 to play over Thorbjorn Olesen and Thomas Bjorn . Siddikur Rahman and Anirban Lahiri delivered Team Asia's second point after a 1-up victory over Joost Luiten and Victor Dubuisson .  Team Europe started the day with 5-0 lead after winning all fourball matches yesterday, picked two halves before Jamie Donaldson and Graeme McDowell earned their only full point of the day. Donaldson and Mcdowell were 1-down with three to play, but raced for a 2 and 1 win over Nicholas Fung and Gaganjeet Bhullar . Captains Thongchai Jaidee and Miguel Angel Jimenez have opted to lead their teams from the front in the opening fourball matches at the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM starting on Thursday. LAUREUS UNITY CUP: ALL STARS BACK IN ACTION

Football legends returned to the pitch for a star-studded charity football match in Malaysia, as part of the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards . The Laureus All Stars Unity Cup was held at the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur. Italian football manager Fabio Capello and retired Danish footballer Michael Laudrup fielded the two teams, featuring world-class footballers Ronald de Boer , Quinton Fortune , Paulo Ferreira , Gaizka Mendieta , Luis Milla and Michel Salgado , Hidetoshi Nakata and Jari Litmanen . Before kickoff, a moment of silence was observed for the families and loved ones of the victims the lost Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 . Playing together with local youth players, it was a close fight between the two teams, but in the end Team Laureus took home a 8-6 victory against Team YR1M . Indian young guns Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar will be aiming to pull the rug from under Team Europe when the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM begins on Thursday. Team Asia will be led by playing captain Thongchai Jaidee , Asian Tour number one Kiradech Aphibarnrat , Prayad Marksaeng , Koumei Oda , Hideto Tanihara , Kim Hyung-sung , Siddikur Rahman and Nicholas Fung . YOUTH PLAYERS ATTENDED FITZPATRICK AND DU PLESSIS COACHING SESSION

About 100 rugby players had the opportunity to meet two rugby legends in a coaching clinic organized by COBRA and YR1M yesterday. Former All Blacks Captain, Sean Fitzpatrick and 1995 Rugby World Cup winner, Morné du Plessis are in Kuala Lumpur for the Laureus World Sports Awards which will be held at Istana Budaya on Wednesday. During the session, Fitzpatrick and  du Plessis joined COBRA coaches to give some tips and techiques  to the young rugby players. COBRA  is currently developing the Malaysia under-19 national team. At the end of the session, Fitzpatrick lead all the participants to do the Haka dance. EURASIA CUP: TEAM EUROPE DESIRE FOR GLORY

Miguel Angel Jiménez ’s European Team are ready to replicate that famous Ryder Cup camaraderie at the inaugural EurAsia Cup – presented by DRB-HICOM at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.   World Number 14 Graeme McDowell , the highest ranked player at the EurAsia Cup , is no stranger to Ryder Cup glory having holed the winning putt in 2010 and been part of the 2012 team that produced the Miracle at Medinah.   The Northern Irishman, who joined team mates Jiménez, Victor Dubuisson and Pablo Larrazábal at Europe’s first tournament press conference before they take on Thongchai Jaidee ’s Asian Team , was keen to stress how important the EurAsia Cup will be for the ten European Tour players in Jiménez’s Team who are all in with a great chance of qualifying for The 2014 Ryder Cup side. SELANGOR CLAIMS FIRST WIN IN SHAH ALAM

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: SELANGOR 1 - KELANTAN 0 Selangor is back on winning form after edging Kelantan 1-0 at Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday night. It was a perfect starts on their return to the original home ground. The win sent Selangor to the top spot of Malaysia Super League with Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang , sharing the lead with 13 points each after yesterday's matches. Kelantan gave the home side an early scare by earning a penalty in the 20th minute. However, Forkey Doe had his penalty saved by Selangor goalkeeper Farizal Marlias . Just two minutes later, Selangor was awarded a penalty too. Paulo Rangel made no mistake from the spot to score his eighth league goal of the season. POLICE DROPS FIRST POINTS AGAINST FELDA

MALAYSIA PREMIER LEAGUE: FELDA UTD 3 - PDRM 3 Premier League leader, PDRM ended their perfect run with a 3-3 draw against Felda United at Selayang Stadium ofn Friday. It was a thrilling Premier League match where the Police needed a penalty to salvage a draw. PDRM looked like running away for an easy win over the homeside, taking 2-0 lead after 30 minutes as Felda struggled to cope with the Cops. Maldives international, Ashfaq Ali opened scoring with a clinical finish in the 11th minute after receiving a long ball from Rafael Souza. Chad Charles Souza doubled the lead in the 30th minute when he converted an opportunity after Felda's goalkeeper Farizal stopped Rafael’s header. STALLIONS TAKES FULL POINT FROM KYSER

KRS LEAGUE: STALLIONS 10 - KYSER 0 After winning their respective games last week, both teams were equally strong in the first half. The match looked to end up scoreless when the Stallions were awarded with a penalty after a KYSER player deliberately not releasing his tackle near their 22 yard line. Stallions’ kicker, Azraie didn’t disappoint with a converted penalty taking the score to 3-0 to the half-time.  Occasional drizzles in the afternoon helped to cool down the heat and turned the field into an interesting playing ground. After a good lineout by the Stallions at KYSER’s half, coupled with flawless handling play enabled Anip to slip through KYSER defence to give the Stallions a 7-0 lead. SLRC WINS IN CLASH OF THE LIONS

KRS LEAGUE: SLRC 21 - XLIONS 17 SLRC edged XLions in a hard fought KRS Rugby League match. Both teams who are also known as Lions scored 2 tries each in the first half, but XLions was two points behind after their kicker missed one of the conversions. As the match resumed after the break, a mistake by the XLions backline during an attacking play cost them dearly. A pass was brilliantly intercepted by centre, Dayat who dashed to the try line with ease. The try was converted putting SLRC ahead with 21-12.  The Xlions did not give up, but put up a strong play and was rewarded with a try through their forward line after phases of solid ruck & maul. However, another missed conversion proved to be the deciding factor. PKNS SCORES THREE AGAINST T-TEAM

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: PKNS FC 3 - T-TEAM 1 Azrai Khor believed that his T-Team players displayed a below par performance at Selayang Stadium which resulted in a defeat against PKNS FC in their latest Malaysia Super League (MSL) fixture. Despite coming into the game fresh off from a win in their previous match, T-Team failed find their rhythm and ended up losing 3-1 away from home. PKNS's three goals were scored by Shahrul Azhar and Helmi Remeli in the first half, while Khairul Azrin scored the third goal in the second half.  Titans got their consolation thru Marzuki Yusof 's goal. The defeat has put T-Team bottom of the table as they suffered their fourth defeat of the season, and also puts PKNS FC in the top four after collecting 11 points in seven games.  They now sit just two points behind league leaders Terengganu.
