The sudden passing of Malaysian rugby player Muhammad Khairul Abdillah Ramli, fondly known as Myko, has left a deep wound in the hearts of the nation’s rugby community, especially in Kelantan.

The son of Kuala Krai passed away on May 10 while travelling home to Kelantan on an express bus. After stopping at Hentian Merapoh for lunch, the late Myko was reportedly struggling to breathe. His face turned pale before he was later confirmed to have passed away.

His departure leaves behind grieving family members, close friends, and a rugby fraternity that knew him as a fearless warrior on the field.

Tragically, just a day before his passing, Myko was still doing what he loved most, fighting for Kelantan on the rugby field. He inspired his team to a memorable victory over defending champions PDRM in the opening match of the Piala Agong. Playing as scrum half, Myko’s leadership, composure, and tireless contributions proved crucial in one of the biggest results of the tournament’s opening round.

For local rugby fans, Myko was far from an unfamiliar name. He was once one of the key figures in Malaysia’s Bunga Raya 7s squad that delivered the historic gold medal at the 2017 SEA Games, a glorious achievement still remembered proudly by Malaysians today.

His final appearance for the Malaysia came last year during the Asia Rugby Championship play-off against Sri Lanka, a fitting reflection of his enduring commitment and love for the country’s jersey until the very end.

Yet beyond the victories and medals, many remembered him as a humble soul, always smiling and never hesitating to help his teammates.

His passing is seen as a tremendous loss to Kelantan rugby, where he continued contributing passionately to the growth of the sport even after his days with the national team had ended.

Back in Kuala Krai, news of his passing spread quickly, bringing sorrow to friends, supporters, and the local sporting community. Many described Myko as a symbol of a kampung boy who rose to make his state and country proud on the international stage.

Former teammates also shared heartfelt tributes, mourning the loss of a brother who fought tirelessly on the field, yet carried a gentle and kind heart away from the game.

Myko’s passing is not merely the loss of a former national athlete. It is the loss of a shining rugby star from Kuala Krai. A man whose passion, sacrifice, and spirit once inspired a nation. May Myko’s soul be showered with mercy and placed among the righteous.
