Pretty much a newbie after the  promotion from Division 2 last year Malaysia secured the highest honor for Malaysian Rugby in many many years. Quite a tall order for Malaysia fielding many home grown and mixed of young and old players for the next generation of Malaysian rugby.  Mohd Azmir Zainul Abidin moved with two tries and Saukuru, Nasalo, and Takubu all with a try a piece from them respectively. Mohd Syarif Saiful Aazwan Sudin converted almost all the penalties and conversion for Malaysia. The fact that Malaysia had lost to the flamboyant Phillipines 15-10 in the opening match, they found the strength with the mauling of Sri Lanka 44-17 and Singapore seemed like a walk in the park with a sturdy s

MALAYSIA STUN SRI LANKA WITH GREAT PERFORMANCE

Image
ASIA RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 MALAYSIA 42 - SRI LANKA 17 After a dissapointing loss to the Volcanoes over the weekend, Malaysia suddenly became the favourite after stunning tournament favorite Sri Lanka in the Division One of the Asian Rugby Championship . Sri Lanka really don't know what hit them when Malaysia kept them at bay with a hefty scoreline of 42 - 17. The roar at the Bukit Kiara Royal Selangor Club pitch has never been louder. Even the local fans were equally surprised with the sudden demolition of the South Asia. Never been prouder Coach Lee Nyuk Fah fielded pretty much the same line up from Sunday comfortably made 5 tries and 4 conversions throughout the match after taking the 1st half lead of 20 - 10. Four home-grown player, Mohd Syahir Asraf Rosli , Badrul Muktee , Tengku Mohd Fariz and Mohd Aiman made the tries with Etonia Vaqa Saukuru . All the conversions were made by Mohamad Amirul . LIONS STILL IN THE RACE AFTER WIN OVER PHILIPPINES

Image
ASIA RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 SINGAPORE 28 - PHILIPPINES 24 The current makeup of the Singapore Team sees a balanced mix of expatriates who have fulfilled World Rugby eligibility rules and local born and bred Singaporean players. The Volcanoes seems to field almost the same ratio of expatriates over local. The matched looked pretty much like New Zealand against Australia to most. Philippines who got the best of Malaysia in the opening match looked jaded and succumb to a 28 - 24 loss to the Singapore side. Quite an even match to say the least but Singapore proved the better team that fateful evening. After losing the opening match to Sri Lanka, Singapore is desperate to win at Royal Selangor Club pitch, Bukit Kiara yesterday to remain in the top flight. Coach Inuke Unaaga Afeaki 's team played their heart out but they outplayed by the Volcanoes in the 1st half 12 - 10. It was Michael Richard Patterson on the scoresheet again along with Warren John Ansell for Sin

MALAYSIA SUFFER FIRST ERUPTION OF THE PHILIPPINES

Image
A grim day in Bukit Kiara on the weather front, but an enthusiastic crowd were rewarded with a decent game and, more importantly, the right result for the travelling Pinoys. It guarantees them a better position for the next match.  Nothing much happened in the 1st half. Everybody is playing safe until Matthew Saunders was yellow carded over a silly foul. Malaysia took the lead when Mohamad Syarif converted a penalty in the 25th minutes. The game tempo quickly acclerated and the Philipines responded with a sweet try by Christopher Bird five minutes before the whistle. Malaysia was behind at 3-5 at half time. Second half started pretty good for Malaysia. Nasalo did good with a try from the outfield, coupled with a sweet conversion for Mohamad Syarif. Gave a healthy 10-5 lead to the home side. A glimpse of hope to say the least. Only to succumb to a 10-10 equalizer from the Phillipines. Matthew Saunders was the man from Zero to Hero. He was immediately up for the breakthrough, and the spe
