NEGERI SEMBILAN RETURNS AS SERIOUS TITLE CONTENDERS

Negeri Sembilan Rugby may have lifted the Piala Agong trophy only three times, but history tells a deeper story, one of resilience, pride, and undeniable quality. In a tournament regarded as Malaysia’s most prestigious rugby stage since 1983, Negeri Sembilan have never been mere participants. They are perennial contenders, a team rich in skill, talent, and fighting spirit.

Now entering the 42nd edition as challengers in Pool B, Negeri Sembilan carry both hunger and legacy. Their last triumph came in 2003, but their influence has never faded. Over the years, they have produced some of the nation’s finest players, shaping Malaysian rugby with grit and excellence. Any opponent who underestimates them does so at their own peril.

Guiding this ambitious squad is Head Coach Mohd Mazuri Sallehudin, a former national player and Piala Agong winner himself. Alongside him is Assistant Coach Farid Rahman, a national legend who has graced global stages like the Commonwealth Games and Hong Kong Sevens, bringing invaluable experience in nurturing talent. Team Manager Megat Faisal adds professionalism and composure, blending corporate expertise with deep passion for the sport.

Despite facing challenges during their squad preparations, the team’s management and coaching staff have done a remarkable job in keeping the squad competitive, focused, and ready to launch a serious title assault.

On the field, excitement builds around players to watch Adeen Imann Putra and Faris Pead. The squad is further strengthened by powerful imports, Esala Nalobo, Vilikesa Kurubola, Semisi Lave, and Tomasi Tawake. Fresh from their triumph with Malolo in the 2025 Skipper Cup. Nalobo, the final’s best player, alongside Tawake, has even trained with the Fiji Sevens setup, signaling elite potential.

With experienced seniors like Sufian Kamil anchoring the team, and explosive new signing Raime Daniel impressing in pre-season, Negeri Sembilan are shaping into a formidable force.

Their campaign begins on 9th May against Kedah at Padang B, Universiti Malaya. The message is clear, Negeri Sembilan are back and they are ready to rise again.
