RUGBY TRADITION RETURNS TO STJ
Rugby spirit roared back to life at Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Jaafar (STJ) on 7–8 February, as the Home of Warriors Rugby Club (HOW) joined forces with the school to reignite a proud sporting legacy. Once known for producing rugby legends both on and off the field, the school took a powerful step toward restoring its rich rugby culture through an action-packed weekend.
Saturday’s STJ Touch Warriors Championship delivered thrilling action in Kuala Pilah. With 16 girls' teams battling it out, the school grounds were alive with energy from the first whistle to the final play. Supporters, families, and friends filled the venue, creating a vibrant carnival atmosphere that exceeded expectations. In the Under-15 category, Blackroses edged past Kolej Tunku Kurshiah (TKC) to lift the title. TKC responded strongly in the Under-17 division, clinching the championship while hosts STJ finished as proud runners-up.
Behind the scenes, the tournament’s smooth success was driven by outstanding teamwork. Principal Jamilah Zamah and teacher Nadrah Lokman worked tirelessly, while proud alumni Amerul Azwan and Musli Mat Isa returned to give back to their former school.
The momentum continued on Sunday with the Get Into Rugby programme, introducing 137 students aged 12–14 to the game. The session was led by coaches Aminuddin, Irfan Lukman, and Amerul Azwan, assisted by 17 dedicated former school players. Strong support also came from teachers Murshid, Nuruddin, and Aiman Akhil, ensuring the programme ran smoothly.
Through fun, engaging activities, participants embraced rugby’s core values, discipline, respect, integrity, passion, and solidarity. This collaboration proved one powerful truth: at STJ, the rugby heartbeat never faded, it only needed the right moment to rise again.
