PIALA AGONG: TERENGGANU 15 - SABAH 16

Sabah once again spoils Terengganu's Agong's Cup dream when they win their semifinal battle 16-15 at UPM Rugby Field yesterday. The defending champions had to wait until the final four minutes before taking over the lead from the hard fighting Terengganu.

Terengganu did not take too long to settle in the game. An early penalty kick from Mohd Fairuz Abd Rahman put them ahead just two minutes after the match started. Sabah struggled to get their game right, could not deny Terengganu from making a try in the 16th minute through Mohd Faridzal Ismail.

Terengganu looked comfortable even though Orene Aii managed to score a penalty for Sabah three minutes later. The East Coast side stretched their lead to 15-3 late in the first half after Tg Mohd Fariz made a try and Mohd Fairuz scored the conversion.

Sabah returned for the second half with a different attitude. They were well discipline played brilliantly. Orene scored another penalty in the 55th minute and Sabah were back playing some good rugby.

The match turned hot after that and the referee had to send some players from both sides into the sin bin. Sabah took their chances and narrow down the points gap. A try by Helbarth Jemlit in the 63rd minute and the conversion by Orene moved Sabah to just two points behind Terengganu. Sabah increased the pressure and Terengganu conceded another penalty in the 76th minute. And former All Blacks star calmly scored the most important three points for his team to play in the final again.
