PERAK REACH AGONG'S CUP FINAL AFTER LONG WAIT

PIALA AGONG: PERAK 10 - JOHOR 6

Perak finally ended their long wait for Agong's Cup final after beating Johor 10-6 in their semifinal match at UPM Rugby Field on Wednesday. The Silver state team had last won the prestigious cup in 1985. Their road to this year's final was tough but they passed them with flying colours.

Johor were not an easy opponent. They took the lead after ten minutes from a penalty by Wan M Asyraf Norudin and held on through the first half. Perak made some good attempts but were broken down by the Southern Tigers.

Perak returned with some tactical changes after the break and started to give Johor a lot of troubles. The Bos Gaurus got a penalty and Mohd Amir Aswad Mat Saad did not waste the opportunity to put his team level with their opponent. However the joy was not long and Johor almost killed them off. Wan Asyraf scored another penalty two minutes later to take Johor in front again.

Perak doubled their efforts and pushed to the limit. Finally they got a try in the 66th minute through Syarif Nurhidayat Muzhaimey to give them the lead. Mohd Amir Hadafi Mat Saad made no mistake for the conversion and Perak were just a step away from the final. Johor could not stop Perak from claiming the victory. The Bos Gaurus were rock solid until the end. Perak will now have only Sabah in their way to end the 30 years of waiting.
