ROSSI WINS AUSTRALIAN MOTOGP
MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi won the Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island after taking advantage of a fall from champion Marc Marquez.
Marquez was on track for another victory when he hit the front from the start and set up a four second gap with less than 10 laps to go. Jorge Lorenzo and Rossi were left behind to fight it out for second and third positions. However, lady luck was not smiling on Marquez. The world champions lost control of his front wheel and came off his bike on lap 18 on a downhill stretch to end his chances of victory. He slid across the tarmac into a grassy area and made his way back to the pits, without any apparent injury.
Rossi grabbed opportunity and flew away to win by 10.8 seconds from Spain's Lorenzo and British rider Bradley Smith. The win was the Italian's 82nd in MotoGP, the most by any rider. The victory pushed him out to an eight-point lead over Lorenzo in second place on the world championship standings behind Marquez with two races remaining at Sepang and Valencia.
