KELANTAN BEAT PAHANG FOR THIRD PLACE

AGONG'S CUP (3RD/4TH): PAHANG 21 - KELANTAN 31

Kelantan clinched the Agong's Cup third place after beating Pahang 31-21 on Saturday. The match at the UKM Stadium was Kelantan's last opportunity to restore some pride in the 2014 Agong's Cup rugby championship.

Kelantan was in high mood to win the match, but Pahang gave them an early scare. A try by Amirul Sani put Pahang in the driving seat after just eight minute. Mohd Fairuz Abdul Rahman scored the conversion.

Kelantan reacted positively from it. They got a try from Amirul Aiman and conversion by Muhammad Nazreen Fitri put them level with Pahang. Kelantan took the lead in the 37th minute from Muhammad Nazreen's penalty.

However, their lead was cancelled two minutes later when Ahmad Fadzlee Ahmad Idriss tried for Pahang. Mohd Fairuz converted from the spot to give Pahang a half-time lead with 14-10. Pahang increased their lead with another try six minutes after the match resumed with a try by Ananaia Rabdnu. Mohd Fairuz delivered another two for Pahang points from the conversion.

Kelantan started to play the catching game when Pahang was leading 21-10. The former champions showed a very different character after that. Kelantan got three tries from Amirul Aiman, Muhammad Ameer Nasrun and Muhammad Faizal Md Tahir, and Mohd Khairul Abdillah scored all conversions to give Kelantan a delightful 31-21 lead.

Pahang ran out of idea after Kelantan's consecutive tries. The score stood until full time and Kelantan claimed the third place.
