DEFENDING CHAMPIONS FALLS TO PAHANG

AGONG'S CUP: JOHOR 19 - PAHANG 24

Pahang staged a stunning performance in the 2014 Piala Agong to beat defending champions, Johor  24-19 in the quarter final match on Monday. The most awaited match at the UKM Rugby Field in Bangi was very tight which ended with Pahang winning conversion by Mohd Fairuz Abd Rahman

Pahang were charging from the start and grabbed their opening try from Shahizam Tukiran before Mohd Fairuz converted from the spot. The 2014 Champions bounced back to equalize the score with a try by Jone Lagibola and a conversion by Mohd Razmi Rozan three minutes later.

Pahang rectified the error and played some fine rugby until the end of first half. Mohd Fairuz scored a penalty in the 8th minute to give Pahang the lead again. A try and another conversion by Muhamad Syabil Laila and Mohd Fairuz put Pahang further ahead. Pahang headed for the break with a comfortable 17-7 lead after Mohd Fairuz scored another penalty.

Johor were more organized in the second half. Their never say die attitude earned them two tries from Makiti Kotobalavu. Skipper Nazmi Hussein put Johor in front with his conversion in the 74th minute.

As the match looked like going to be another Johor's win, Pahang charged back in the very last moment with a dramatic try by Ananaia Rabonu. Mohd Fairuz did not make mistake to convert from the spot to give Pahang a deserved 24-19 victory and qualified for the semifinals.
