LIONS BEATEN, COBRA IN SUPER LEAGUE FINAL

​MRSL: COBRA 34 - UITM LIONS 29

Group A champion, UITM Lions squandered their chance in making a history to play in the 2015 Malaysia Rugby Super League Final after losing to rugby powerhouse COBRA in a hard fought match at the UPM Rugby Field on Saturday. 

UITM looked dangerous from the beginning after Amir Izzat Abd Samad put UITM infront with a try inside the first sixty seconds of the match. Sae Faalupega reduced the deficit three minutes later through penalty but Khairul Imran Kamarudin of UITM extended the lead with a try in 14th minute.

COBRA fought back ten minutes later through Vatimio Rabebe try and Sae Faalupega completed the conversion for COBRA with conversion a minute later. The action did not stop there as Khairul Imran once again play his role in putting UITM back on track with a try in 36th minutes. COBRA increased the pressure on UITM and Sae Faalupega ensure his team trailed the Lions with 13-15 a minute before halftime.

​Second half resumed with both team managers making a few changes in their lineups. UITM fly half Anwarul Hafiz Ahmad pushed his team further with a try and conversion in 52nd minutes. The Lions added up the score with Khairul Imran try three minutes later followed by Anwarul conversion. And UITM lead the game comfortably with 29-15.

Down with 14 points, COBRA coach Wan Syahmi Wan Daud changed the tactics and his team started to generate positive improvements. A great teamwork by COBRA succesfully break UITM defense and secured more points through a try and conversion in 62nd minutes by Sae Faalupega and Vatimio Rabebe. 

​​UITM tightened up their defense to stop the COBRAs but Mohammad Syahir Asraf Rosli took up an opportunity to reduce the deficit with a try. Muhamad Nurhijaz Azman scored the conversion to put COBRA back on track to trail UITM with 27-29.

The Lions could not hold COBRA's group efforts. Sae Faalupega turned the table around and crushed UiTM's dream after a try followed by conversion in injury time to send COBRA into the final. COBRA will meet last year semifinalist, Keris Conlay in the MRSL Final next week.
