KERIS CONLAY WINS THE SUPER LEAGUE AFTER A PERFECT RUN

There were nothing sweeter for every Keris Conlay players and the fans on Saturday. The frustration from last year's final was finally turned into joy as the team beat Cobra 18-11 to clinch the prestigious Malaysia Rugby Super League title. However, the joy did not come easily for Keris Conlay in the toughest match of the season.

Keris Conlay got a good start with a first minute try by Jone Marawa Nasalo. And Mohd Fairuz Abd Rahman did not waste the chance with his conversion. 


​Cobra played brilliantly to stop the flying Keris from making more tries. They got a try after the half hour mark through Mohammad Amin Jamaluddin but failed to convert the score. Then Cobra was awarded a penalty in the 40th minute, and Sae Faalupega delivered a slim 8-7 lead over Keris Conlay at half time.

The match resumed in the rain at the UKM Rugby Stadium. Match officials had to stop match after ten minutes due to lightning. After the weather turned better, both teams were back on the field to finish the last thirty minutes on the season.

​Keris Conlay were quick to get a penalty and Mohd Fairuz sent it through to take over the lead. Fielded by many experienced players, Cobra were back in control when Sae Faalupega scored another penalty.


​Keris Conlay threw everything to turn over the score again. They were awarded another penalty inside the last ten minutes and Mohd Fairuz sent them closer to the title. Cobra had finally lost their control over the never say die Conlay players.

Muhammad Faridzal Ismail accelerated in the final minute of the match to a try which takes the score beyond Cobra's reach. And Mohd Fairuz once again displayed another perfect performance by converting the final score. Keris Conlay finally clinched the title in somehow a perfect season for them. Team captain, Mohd Fairuz was also named man of the match for delivering many crucial points in the match. But the most importantly, Keris Conlay got a team with perfect attitude.

MERSING EAGLES EDGE UITM LIONS TO CLAIM MRL THIRD PLACE

MRL PREMIER 3RD/4TH PLACINGS MERSING EAGLES 25 - UITM LIONS 24 Mersing Eagles claimed the third place finishing in the Malaysia Rugby League Premier Division. The Eagles edged the never-say-die UiTM Lions 25-24 at UPM Serdang on Saturday. After losing to ASAS RC in the semifinals, Mersing Eagles showed determination right from the start. They took complete control of the first half leaving UiTM Lions pointless. Three tries by Timoci Vunimoku , Mohd Farid Sujari and Semi Nakaira , plus two conversions by Jahanghir Khan gave the Eagles a strong 19-0 advantage at the break. UiTM Lions were more organized when the match resumed. They made four tries through Mohd Syahimy Abd Aziz , Luqman Nurhakim Hendri Dwisatrya , Mohamad Danial Noor Hamidi , and two conversions by Mohamad Sofian Mohd Kamil and Muhammad Al-Hafiz Effendi Abd Ranie lifted them into contention again. PERAK CLAIM FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Perak edged PJ City FC to claim their first win in Liga Super this season. However, the maiden victory did not come easy for the Bos Gaurus despite playing at their home ground. PJ City gave a good fight before going down in Ipoh. Perak started well but the strikers could not beat PJ City's solid defence. Then the real opportunity came in the 37th minute when Mohd Nor Hakim was brought down inside the penalty area. Wander Luiz Bitencourt Jr made no mistake from the spot to beat Mohd Muhaimin Mohamad and put his team ahead. The home side got more chances in the second half. Wander Luiz attempt in the 51st minute was saved by Muhaimin. Nor Hakim also failed to find the net with his header in the 74th minute. Safee Sali and Sergio Nascimento also had their chances, but Perak's goalkeeper  Muhammad Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy was at his best. The 1-0 score remained until the final whistle, and Mehmet Durakovic has finally found his winning touch.
