MALAYSIA, KL TIGERS PLAY FIRST EVER RUGBY MATCH IN NATIONAL STADIUM

Malaysia and KL Tigers played in a historic rugby match at the National Stadium near Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. It was an honour for the national rugby team to be given the chance to play inside the Malaysia's main stadium after winning two consecutive Asia Rugby Division One titles.

Bukit Jalil National Stadium is an all-seater multi-purpose stadium located near Kuala Lumpur. The stadium was opened in September 1996 and can accommodate up to 90 thousand people. It is the largest stadium in South East Asia, and one of the biggest in the world.

Over 6000 fans turned up for the first ever rugby match held inside the stadium. The Malaysian Hibiscus did not fail to entertain the passionate rugby fans. Even though head coach Lee Nyuk Fah was still testing some new and old players, his team looked solid against the experienced KL Tigers. Malaysia took a comfortable 17-0 lead in the first half before wrapping-up the game with a 34-5 victory.

The Malaysian Hibiscus will be playing in the Asia Rugby Championship Top Division against South Korea on 28th April, and Hong Kong on 5th May at this great stadium again. If they win the Top Division, Malaysia will have a very good chance to qualify to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. It is still a long way for the Hibiscus, but nothing is impossible.
