HOME OF WARRIORS READY FOR THE BIG STAGE

In the Negri Sembilan rugby heartland, Home of Warriors (HOW) is one of the most recognised and long standing rugby club, steeped in school rugby history as the old boys of Sekolah Men Sains Tuanku Jaafar (STJ). From humble beginnings now they play top class rugby at the Malaysia Rugby League (MRL) Division 2. Without  doubt, STJ have produced the legendary rugby players Malaysia has seen to date. They are Farid Rahman, Mazuri Salehudin and Roestam Effendi Sijar to name a few. STJ had a strong rugby culture that produced these legends and the tradition shall continue in the Home of Warriors outfit.

The club finest hours was 2016 when they qualified to the final of the Negeri Sembilan Rugby League. By claiming the qualification, they secured the place at the national level tournament in the upcoming Malaysia Rugby League Division 2. Team boss, Ahmad Nazlee Idris assisted by former NS Wanderers Muhamad Aminuddin and Hirman Ikhwan in the coaching team will look certain taking HOW to the bigger stage.

Although they were never really known in the past, they had some good achievements in the National Alumni League and now the Malaysia Rugby League will be their biggest ever tournament they compete. Some of their notable successes are Shield Champion National Alumni League in 2008 and they were the Runners Up in the 2006 edition.

In the off-season they had 2 important friendlies with NS Wanderers and Kelleys. Lost both games but that will be a very strong learning curve once the league resumed this weekend. With players average age of 23 years old, HOW has 6 non-STJ players and 4 homegrowns. Key players are Muhamad Ridwan Jalaluddin, Amin Abidin Buran and Anis Mirza Mohd Khairul. Megat Mohd Faisal, 40 will be the most senior player in their MRL squad. The Warriors are looking at a conservative top 4 finishing in their maiden Malaysian Rugby League Division 2 this year. They will meet VIOBA in the opening match on the 4th February 2017 at Sekolah Sains Tuanku Jaafar pitch.
