MAYBANK CHAMPIONSHIP: WESTWOOD SET FOR RETURN TO SAUJANA GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB

The Maybank Championship 2017 is coming to Saujana Golf and Country Club from February 9-12. This year's event will brings world-class players to take out the challenge at the Palm Course which is known to be one of the toughest courses in the world.  The former champion of Maybank Malaysian Open, Lee Westwood alongside with the US Masters reigning champion Danny Willett and fellow former Master's winner Charls Schwartzel are amongst the final line-up players that will triggers excitement of the region's golf fans.

Westwood, the touring pro for Saujana in the late 90s, hopes that he can repeat the history in 1997. He won the Maybank Malaysian Open in 2014 but finished tied fifth in 2015. These two previous tournaments were held at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club and he did not take part in the tournament in year 2016.  Although, it's has been over than 20 years, the Saujana Golf and Country Club is known to him and appreciating to get back here this year.

The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and currently leads the European Tour Race, Tommy Fleetwood and the winner of Hong Kong Open, Sam Brazel and Spain's Pablo Larrazabal are amongst the players making the late entry to the tournament.  All three will definitely continue with strong start to the season when come to Malaysia. Another man who is on form, Graeme Storm with US$3million at stake will be joining and this is a significant event for him to keep high in rankings.

This year's event had allocated an ASEAN category, which is supported by Maybank for the development of talents and game in the region.  Five places for the top players from Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand Philippines and Vietnam have been allocated for these players to compete and to stage their skills on a world stage.  Asian stars such as Prayad Marksaeng, who won the Singapore Open two weeks ago together with another winner of Leopalace21 Myanmar Open of Asian Tour, Todd Sinnott will also line up in the tournament.
