ANGELS CRASH, EAGLES FLY HIGH, ALL ON MRL 2017 OPENING DAY

The results from Malaysian Rugby League brand new season have thrown up some interesting scenarios for this week's 1st Round outing. As the league kicked-off today, immediately we saw some upsets and surprises. Further proved there are a lot more in store in this exciting season

New comer ASAS and NS Wanderers have laid down their strong intentions for the series moving forward; and it's hard to decide if KL Saracens is just that good or if Mustangs have it what it takes in them? Serdang Angels and UiTM Lions are all just ironing out a few kinks before putting some consistency in performance on the field.

Will Home of Warriors have a breakout first day in front of a raucous home crowd defying the odds against youth and inexperience?
Can JLJ take the next step up the ladder and be one of the force to be reckon with at the end of the season?
Can any team replace the Angels as the eventual Champions?

PREMIER DIV

NS Wanderers, Politeknik Malaysia, Iskandar Riders, Serdang Angels, Cobra, Mersing Eagles, ASAS RC, UiTM Lions

Two major upset recorded on the first day when we saw the Champions fell to Iskandar Riders by 4 points. The second upset COBRA saw them clueless when they were mauled by the Mersing Eagles 5 - 52. Apparently the Japanese tsunami is just a small ripple in the pond. ASAS RC always has the ability to surprise on any given match day and they love a big crowd when they beaten UiTM Lions 32 - 19, while NS Wanderers seems like a walk in the park crushing Politeknik Malaysia 41 - 31

MRL DIV 1

JLJ, UTM Pirates, Edwardian Tigers, KL Saracens, IIUM Mustangs, Iskandar Troopers

This group has all the hallmarks of a fight to the death in any of the matchups. JLJ is on a high after an emphatic start to the season drubbling UTM Pirates 22 - 3, while the Tigers can't quite seem to find their rhythm when KL Saracens pipped them at 17 - 19. The group also saw IIUM Mustangs superiority over a rather mediocre Iskandar Troopers.

MRL DIV 2

Navy ORCA, USM Jokers, Kelleys, UTP Drillers, HOW, VIOBA

Navy Orca is riding high after beating the Jokers 15 - 3. Home of Warriors is the other strong contender but was outclassed and out scrummed by VIOBA 8 - 7. The Kelleys is still battling to find out why the results are not coming, especially when they lost to UTP Drillers 10 - 13.

The season is still at its infancy. Stay tuned with Tiger Super Sports for more news and great images from all our social media sites. Find and share your images and win exclusive prizes from our Facebook and Instagram competition.
