CHARL SHWARTZEL PIP DARREN CLARKE TO WIN CHINA MASTERS

Charl Schwartzel claims the China Masters after closing with a 4-under 68 to deny Darren Clarke first victory since 2011 Open Championship. The South African had a 9-under 279 total on Nanshan International's Montgomerie Course. He earned $180,000 in the OneAsia Tour event.

Clarke held the lead for much of the round after Liang Wen-Chong, who shared the overnight lead with the Ulsterman, bogeyed the fourth and five holes before Clarke birdied the sixth to get to nine under.

The 2011 Masters winner, Schwartzel posted the pressure on the final pair when he birdied 12, 15 and 16 and parred in to set the clubhouse target at eight under. He mastered tricky conditions on the final day over the Montgomerie Course to close with a four-under 68 and pip Clarke and defending champion Liang by a single shot.
