MERSING EAGLES CRUISE INTO MRL LAST FOUR

MERSING EAGLES 43 - SSTMI TSUNAMI 25

Mersing Eagles good run in the Malaysia Rugby League Premier Division (MRL) this season continues as they beat another southern club, SSTMI Tsunami 43-25. The Eagles took complete control in the second half to win their quarterfinals match at Serdang on Saturday.

Both team were almost equally good at the start. Apoloisi Tuiluma Tanda opened the scoring for Mersing Eagles just after 55 seconds into the game. Wan Mohd Asyraf scored the conversion, but SSTMI responded with a try two minutes later through Muhammad Aziem Badaruddin. Three tries by Jone Vucukula and Apoloisi, and a conversion by Wan Mohd Asyraf gave Mersing Eagles 24-5 lead. SSTMI Tsunami bounced back after twenty minutes. A successful penalty by Mohd Saizul Hafiz Md Noor followed by two tries by Rozaihan Roslee and Aqib Mustamim Jailani, and conversions by Muhammad Aziem reduced the deficit for Tsunami to 22-24.

Mersing Eagles gave no chance for SSTMI Tsunami after the break. They went all out to confirm their place in the MRL last four. Wan Mohd Asyraf and Timochi Vunimoku scored another three tries and two conversions among them to help the Eagles to fly again. SSTMI could only get a penalty in the last forty minutes and not enough to stop the Eagles. Mersing Eagles will face ASAS RC in the MRL semifinals.
