RAIDERS CRUISE INTO NICC QUARTERFINALS
NICC: IIUM MUSTANGS 15 - ISKANDAR RAIDERS 27
Iskandar Raiders defeated IIUM Mustangs 27-15 in National Inter Club Championship (NICC) third match at the Sayyidina Hamzah Stadium, Gombak on Saturday. The southern club lead 15-10 in the first half before adding making another two tries after the break. The Mustangs gave their visitors some tough times but the kickers could not deliver the points they needed.
Iskandar Raiders took the lead just after three minutes with a try by M. Syukri Seh Dom. Bulu Iliesa Biutuviti Biodole made another try in the 6th minute to stretched their lead, and M.Syukri scored the conversion to give the visitors a strong 12 points advantage.
The Mustangs struggled to settle down against the experienced opponent. They conceded a penalty for M.Syukri to take his team 15-0 up after 17 minutes. Though, the home side finally got the break in the 23rd minute with a try by Muhammad Mirza Zam Zam. From there, the Mustangs built their confidence and scored another try by Ahmad Faris Haziq Rashidi four minutes before the break. However, they failed to score any conversion from both kicks which saw them trailing the visitors 10-15 at half time.
The Raiders were quick to stop the rising Mustangs. Two tries in 59th and 66th minute by M.Razmi Rozan and Bulu Iliesa sent them nearer to the next stage. Muhammad Mirza gave Mustangs a late try, but Iskandar Raiders held on to claim the victory.
