MERLIMAU POLYTECH CLAIMS NICC THIRD PLACE
Merlimau Polytech secured the third place in the 2014 National Inter-Club Rugby Championship (NICC) after defeating Panthers Blowpipes 22-15 at the Bellamy Field. It was a sweet ending for Merlimau Polytech after showing good performance through out the season.
The Malacca side opened the scoring with a try in the 10th minute, and converted the score to take an early 7-0 lead. Panthers did not give up easily, Mohamed Firdaus Mohamed Yusof delivered a try five minutes later. However, Muhammad Amiruddin Zainal Abidin earned another try for Merlimau Polytech to take a good 15-8 lead at half time.
Panthers came back stronger in the second half with a try and conversion to eaqualised the score. But Merlimau Polytech picked up another seven points in the final ten minutes to claim the NICC third place.
