SRI LANKA TAMED LIONS IN OPENING MATCH

ASIA RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP 2016
SRI LANKA 33 - SINGAPORE 17

Sunday was the day we saw the Sri Lanka mauling of Singapore. Singapore started the game with the right beat in the first half was left dumbfounded with agile and smart play by the Sri Lankan. It was indeed a day Singapore would want to forget.

Sri Lanka took the lead from penalty kick by their very own Jonny Wilkinson, Riza Mubarak just 4 minutes after the kick off. Singapore responded with a clever try just 2 minutes later by Michael Richard Patterson. Jay-Haikel Hailani further cemented Singapore's early domination with a try in the 17th minute. Sri Lanka went overdrive and quickly made their first try in the 25 minutes by Sudarshan before Riza Mubarak completed the conversion. However Singapore maintained the lead with another try by Peter William McFeely on the 26th minutes followed by a conversion by Michael Richard Patterson. Singapore held on with the two points advantage (17-15) until the break.

The Lions seems to lost its fangs in the seconds half. It seems that all the scores by the Singaporeans are only to be made in the first. Sri Lanka came on in the second half with full of vigour and mission to inflict pain on the Lions. Sri Lanka made 6 substitutions into the second half proven to be the best decision that turned the game around. A try by Sandun Herath gave them a different confidence level after the break.

Jason Dissayanake hit a try 10 minutes later and Riza Mubarak conversion put Sri Lanka on the driving seat. 2 penalty kicks later by the Sri Lankan Wilkinson, Sri Lanka sealed the game at 33 - 17. Singapore really do not know what hit them, but this is a stern reminder that the force has awaken in the South Asian nation of Sri Lanka.
