JOHOR DT SINK PKNS FOR FA CUP TITLE

MALAYSIA FA CUP: JOHOR DT 2 - PKNS 1

Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) lifted the Malaysia FA Cup for the first time in the club's history after beating PKNS 2-1 in the final at the Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday. PKNS took just two minutes to give JDT a scare when Matias Jadue's looping effort bounced off the crossbar to goalkeeper Izham Tarmizi Roslan's relief. However, PKNS were awarded a penalty three minutes later after Aidil Zafuan Radzak faulted for hauling Gonzalo Soto to the ground. Gabriel Guerra expertly converted the spot kick for a sixth-minute lead.

JDT then received a spot kick of their own as PKNS goalkeeper G. Jeevananthan sent Jorge Pereyra Diaz sprawling after rushing off his line to intercept the ball. Safiq Rahim did not make any mistake to leave the match all square after 15 minutes.

Then in the 35th minute, Safiq took a quick free-kick to release Diaz, whose initial shot hit centre-back Sivakumar and bounced into the goal. The win allowed JDT, who won the Super League and AFC Cup last year, to bury the ghost of 2013 when they lost the FA Cup final to Kelantan 1-0.
