CHINESE TAIPEI BEAT THAILAND IN ASIAN RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP

ARC: CHINESE TAIPEI 29 - THAILAND 24

Chinese Taipei overcame their frustrations from the opening match with a win over Thailand in the Asian Rugby Championship at Kelana Jaya Stadium on Wednesday. The Thais who are also looking for their first win gave a good fight before losing 24-29.

Thailand got off with perfect start as Warongkorn Khamkoet scored two penalties within the first ten minutes. Chinese Taipei awaken by Thailand's early charges, pushed hard to get a try in the 19th minute through Yu-Hsiang Wang. But the Thais were up again with a penalty by Warongkorn four minutes later. Chinese Taipei regrouped and got another try in the 34th minute through Lun-Wei Chang. Wen-Pao Chiang made it 12-9 in favour of Chinese Taipei with the conversion four minutes before the break.

Two minutes after the restart, Chinese Taipei got another try through Cheng-Hsuan Tsai. Thailand did not give up easily and pumped more pressure against the opponent. As a result, the Thais were awarded another penalty and Warongkorn delivered it perfectly. Then Yu-Hsiang tried to pull Chinese Taipei away with a try in the 59th minute. Wen-Pao made it 24-12 with the conversion after that.

However, the never-say-die Thais staged a great catch-up. Two tries by Napat Prompataya and Peerapol Chukoun, plus another conversion by Warongkorn put them level with Chinese Taipei in the 72nd minutes.

Chinese Taipei proved that they are more superior than Thailand when Wen-Ching Kuo turned into a match winner with try in the 79th minute. Chinese Taipei will face UAE on Saturday in their last match, while Thailand will meet host nation Malaysia on the same day.
