BMW MALAYSIAN OPEN: DONNA VEKIC FIGHTS BACK TO WIN FIRST ROUND

Seventh seed Donna Vekic of Croatia and former champion Hsieh Su-Wei of Taiwan survived rain delays and jitters to reach the second round of the BMW Malaysian Open at Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The World No 95, Donna was down 3-6 and 1-4 against Taiwan's Chan Yung Jan before play was halted due to the rain.

The 17-year-old Donna, who is the youngest player in the main draw, however, returned to court three hours later stronger. She turned on a near-perfect display to win five straight games in the second set to force the match into a decider. It was a one-sided third set with Donna, who is making her third appearance in the BMW Malaysian Open, winning 6-1 for a spot in the second round.
