LABUAN CLINCH WOMENS U20 TITLE AT NATIONAL SEVENS

Labuan U20 Women's Team won the Malaysia National Rugby Sevens after defeating Sabah 17-10 in the Cup Final. Nurul Izza Khalisah Abu Samah turned hero for her team with two important tries in the title deciding match.

Labuan had a good run in the first round of the tournament by picking up 3 wins in a row. They beat Sarawak 17-10, Terengganu 17-10 and a stunning victory over host team Perak 27-0. The Labuan girls continued their good form on the second day by defeating Johor 22-10 in the semifinals.

However, the toughest opponent were waiting for them in the final. Sabah took a 10-0 lead in the first half. Nuramira Nassan came off the bench to take Labuan back into contention. Nurul Izza got the equalizer with just two minutes left to play. And it was a moment of brilliance for the team as Nurul Izza scored the winning try in the dying minutes.

It was a great achievement for Labuan Rugby. Coached by Wan Ibrahim and Syed Shazril, Labuan U20 Mens Team also finished third at the championship. Jannie Peter was named the Best Player after the final.

The hardwork paid-off for Labuan Rugby President Abdul Rashid Adlie, and his management team Ahmad Effendy Abdul Razak and Sukor Ashak after years of developing rugby in the island. Wilayah Persekutuan Sports Director, Dr. Hasnul Faizal was also present to support the teams.
