ITALY BEAT NAMIBIA TO CLAIM FIRST WIN AT RUGBY WORLD CUP 2019

Italy won their opening game of a Rugby World Cup for the first time since 1991. They beat Namibia 47-22 in a match at Hanazono Rugby Stadium.

Namibia took the lead in the 5th minute through Damian Stevens try. Italy were awarded a penalty try in the 10th minute before Tommaso Allan and Tito Tebaldi added with two more tries. Tommaso scored all three conversions before the break.

Italy came back after the break with more fire. Edoardo Padovani, Carlo Canna, Jake Polledri and Matteo Minozzi tries put them closer to the quarterfinals. Cliven Loubser scored a late try for Namibia but was not enough to deny the Italians.

Namibia's record streak of Rugby World Cup games without a win (or draw) is now 20. Italy's Sergio Parisse became the third player to play at five Rugby World Cups, after Brian Lima (Samoa), and Mauro Bergamasco (Italy).
