MERSING EAGLES FLY INTO MRL PREMIER FINAL

Mersing Eagles made it through to their first ever Malaysia Rugby League (MRL) Premier Division Final after defeating UiTM Lions 28-12 on Saturday. The Eagles dominated the semifinal clash at UPM Rugby Field to set-up an interesting final showdown against Keris Conlay next week.

Mersing Eagles did not take too long to show their aspirations. Apoloisi Tuloma Tanoa scored the first try in the 4th minute and Wan Mohd Asyraf Norudin scored the conversion. UiTM Lions equalised four minutes later through Are Monoka and Mohamad Faris Pead. However, Apoloisi put the Eagles above again with another try in the 12th minute. The Fijian Winger completed his hattrick of tries three minutes before the break.

Mersing Eagles continue to dominate in the second half. They went 20-7 up after Wan Mohd Asyraf scored a penalty in the 52nd minute. Six minutes later, Muhammad Danial Noor Hamidi gave UiTM Lions a fighting chance. Though, the Eagles were in a solid form. Wan Mohd Asyraf scored another penalty in the 61st minute, and a try by Joshua Barak in the last ten minutes sealed the match for Mersing Eagles.

In another semifinal clash, Keris Conlay beat Serdang Angels 24-10 to reach their 8th final since 2011. Mersing Eagles will go all out to win the Championship in their first ever final and deny Keris Conlay from claiming their fourth MRL title.
