MERSING EAGLES CRUISE INTO MRL PREMIER SEMIFINALS


Mersing Eagles proved to be the Malaysia Rugby League (MRL) Premier title contender after defeating SSTMI Tsunami 55-25 in the quarterfinals. The Eagles showed their true potential as they sent the young Tsunamis out of the competition at UPM Rugby Field on Sunday.

SSTMI Tsunami opened the scoring in the 8th minute from a successful penalty by Hafizie Sudin. But Mersing Eagles responded with two consecutive tries by Mohd Farid Sujari and Joshua Barak Kiniviliame. Tsunami also scored two tries through Muhd Shah Izuan Nordin and Wan Azley Wan Omar before Mohd Farid got his second try for the Eagles to take the half time lead with 19-13.

The Eagles were more fierce after the break. They scored another five tries through Muhamad Amirul Adam, Timoci Vunimoku including a hattrick by Apolosi Tuiloma. SSTMI could only get a penalty try in the 58th minute and a try by Hafizie in the 72nd minute. Mersing Eagles booked their place in the semifinals after the convincing performance.
