MARC MARQUEZ WINS JEREZ, TAKES CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

Marc Marquez took a stunning second win of the season, which is also his second win at Jerez in the Gran Premio Red Bull de España. The reigning world champion powered his Repsol Honda to the front and pulled himself away from some huge drama that then hit the race behind. Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso all crash out in an unbelievable racing incident at turn 6. Johann Zarco and Andrea Iannone came through to complete the podium.

Lorenzo took the lead ahead of Pedrosa in second and Zarco in third as pole sitter Cal Crutchlow lost out off the line. Marquez remained where he'd qualified in fifth, with Alex Rins in sixth.

Marquez was in a race of his own for the last eight laps after the Ducati pair, Dovizioso and Lorenzo collided with Honda's Pedrosa while fighting for second place. Lorenzo came across into the corner as Dovizioso went wide, colliding with Pedrosa and sending the two Ducatis into the gravel. Pedrosa was thrown high over his bike and onto the asphalt after trying to go past the two Ducatis on the inside.

French Tech3 Yamaha rider Zarco was gifted the runner-up slot, 5.241 seconds behind, and is now Marquez's closest rival in the championship. Iannone was just able to make a gap and stay clear of the chasing Italians, despite Valentino Rossi having pulled back an awesome amount of distance on the penultimate lap to get himself in contention. Iannone crossed the line in third for the third Suzuki podium in a row. Danilo Petrucci took fourth and Rossi a top five finish in the race in which he completed a lap equivalent the distance of the circumference of the Earth upon finishing Lap 15.
