MELAKA UNITED CELEBRATE PREMIER LEAGUE SUCCESS

LIGA PREMIER: MELAKA UNITED 1 - SIME DARBY 1

Melaka United were officially crowned as the 2016 Malaysia Premier League champions after a 1-1 draw with league bottomers Sime Darby in their last league match here last night. Playing in front of 35,000 crowds at the Hang Jebat Stadium, Melaka United controlled most of the match but they were not in the mood for a big win.

It was Sime Darby who opened scoring in the 79th minute through Mateo Roskam after several close attempts by both sides. Melaka United were awarded a free kick in the 91st minute when captain Spasojevic was brought down in Sime's half and Mohd Saiful Mustafa smacked it to the top left corner to beat goalkeeper Mohamad Redzuan Harun for the equaliser.

After the match, Melaka United were officially presented the Premier League trophy by Yang diPertua Negeri Melaka, Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
