SABAH IS AGONG'S CUP CHAMPIONS AGAIN

​PIALA AGONG: SABAH 28 - PERAK 16

Sabah had successfully retained the Agong's Cup after defeating Perak 28-16 in the final at Kelana Jaya Stadium on Saturday. After making to their first ever final since 1985, Perak have to accept the superior quality of the defending champions, Sabah.

Sabah pumped the pressure on Perak from the beginning with a try in the 11th minute by No.8, Nathanael Tan Aik Ming. Orene Ai'i made it 7-0 with his conversion a minute later.

​Perak replied with a penalty in the 15th minute. Mohd Amir Aswad Mat Saad kicked the ball through to keep Perak in contention for the prestigious cup.

Sabah kept their momentum going with a drop goal by Orene Ai'i in the 20th minute but Perak replied with another penalty by Mohd Amir in the 32nd minute. The first half ended with Sabah leading 10-6 over Perak.

Perak doubled their efforts as the match resumed. However Sabah looked comfortable to overcome their challenger's threat. A try by Mohd Amir Hadafi Mat Saad after the start gave Perak a one-point lead over the defending champions. But Sabah regained the lead with a try by Badrul Musa four minutes later.

​Sabah added more more pressure in the 70th minute with another Orene Ai'i's penalty and a try by Serupepeli Naqasima a minute later. Perak got a late try from Mohamad Taufiq Mohd Noor in the 74th minute to keep their chances alive, but a last minute try by Wan Azuan Amat ended their hopes to write history.

Sabah won the title for the fourth time after 2007, 2009 and 2014. Badrul Musa of Sabah was also named as the player of the tournament.
