MALAYSIA DEFEATED THAILAND FOR FINAL

MERDEKA TOURNAMENT: MALAYSIA 3 - THAILAND 0

Malaysia did not show any sign of slowing down although they had already qualified for the final before the match at Darul Makmur Stadium last night. The under-23 squad completed the four-team group fixtures in style with a convincing 3-0 win over Thailand. The win set them up for another match with Myanmar in the final of the Merdeka Tournament on Saturday. Myanmar beat Singapore 1-0 in the other match at Temerloh Stadium.

Rozaimi Abdul Rahman scored a double with goals in the 28th and 82nd minute after midfielder Mohd Nasir Basharuddin opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Team manager Ong Kim Swee made some changes in his player list against Thailand. Only four players from the first team were named in the starting line-up but it did not affect their performance at all.

Malaysia opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a powerful volley by Mohd Nasir. Rozaimi was the next to be in the score sheet with a simple tap-in in the 28th minute. He later scored again in the 82nd minute with a brilliant goal.
