JOOST LUITEN WINS KLM OPEN AFTER PLAY-OFF

It was a cheerful day for the home crowds at Zandvoort when Holland's Joost Luiten beat Miguel Angel Jimenez at the first hole of a play-off to win the KLM Open. Playing at the event for his ninth time, Luiten held his nerve to become the first Dutchman since Maarten Lafeber in 2003 to win his national Open.

The final round progressed as it developed into a two-way battle between the home favourite and Jimenez with a strong, swirling wind at the Kennemer Golf Club complicating matters.

Luiten began the day with a one-shot lead over Jimenez but the Spaniard, made four birdies in his first six holes to edge in front. Jimenez led by two after 13 but a Luiten birdie at the 14th to Jimenez's dropped shot at 15 brought them level before both bogeyed the 17th and parred the last to force the play-off.
