SOUTH AFRICA RETAIN JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CROWN IN STYLE

South Africa successfully defended their World Rugby Junior Championship title after overcoming France 16-5 in a fiercely contested final at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Saturday. The victory saw the Junior Springboks become only the fourth nation to win back-to-back Junior World Championship titles, joining New Zealand, England and France in the prestigious list.

It was a triumph built on resilience and physical dominance as South Africa extended their winning streak in the competition to 11 matches. Despite having three tries ruled out, the defending champions never lost their composure. Fly-half Yaqeen Ahmed proved the difference with an outstanding kicking display, contributing 11 crucial points, while Markus Muller crossed for South Africa's only try. France's lone try came through flanker Raphael Audebert early in the second half, but it was not enough to deny the determined Springboks.


Captain Siphosethu Mnebelele, a member of last year's title-winning squad, celebrated another unforgettable achievement, while coach Kevin Foote praised his players for standing up to France's relentless challenge in a bruising championship decider.

Elsewhere, New Zealand secured third place with a 41-26 victory over England, inspired by two tries from lock Finn McLeod. Scotland matched their best-ever finish of fifth by edging Wales 28-21 despite ending the match with 13 players. Australia defeated Argentina 52-29 to claim seventh, Ireland beat Italy 34-26 for ninth, while Fiji marked their return with an 11th-place finish after defeating hosts Georgia 30-10. The United States also celebrated a historic first-ever tournament victory by defeating Uruguay 39-15.

The historic city of Melaka is gearing up for a major sporting spectacle as the CM Cup Rugby Tournament 2025 takes place at the iconic Stadium Kubu ( Hang Tuah Stadium ) from 29–31 August. The tournament will feature five categories, with eight teams competing in each division and five teams in the Women’s category.
