SARAWAK RUGBY HUNTS NATIONAL SEVENS GLORY

Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU) is heading to the Malaysia National Sevens Rugby Championship 2025 with a clear goal: to surpass their best performances yet. Thanks to strong support from the Majlis Sukan Negeri Sarawak and Sarawak Sports Corporation, the SRU is sending its largest-ever contingent. 52 players and 12 officers, with 95% proudly Sarawakian and all of Borneo origin.

The contingent will be led by SRU Deputy President, Yusop Shah Mohksen, who also serves as Head Coach of the Men’s Open team. His leadership has been instrumental in preparing the squads, and this year, SRU has also included two medical officers and four physios to ensure full player support.

Last year, the Men’s Open squad broke into the Cup Quarterfinals, finishing in the Top 8, a target they aim to meet or exceed this time. The Women’s Open team, 4th in 2023, return to gain more exposure and experience for their youthful squad.

The Men’s U21 team, previously 14th, aim to push further up the ranks, while the Women’s U21 team, 3rd in both 2019 and 2023, are eyeing a Top 4 finish as they gear up for SUKMA 2026.

With momentum from a strong season, including a 3rd place finish in the Selangor League (Women’s 15s), Sarawak Rugby arrives in Terengganu ready to impress, compete, and win.
