IRELAND MEN, FRANCE WOMEN AND RUSSIA WOMEN SECURE OLYMPIC SPOTS


Ireland beat France to win the men’s Olympic Repechage tournament in Monaco. The victory assured them a place at the Olympic Games in Tokyo next month. France and Russia Women teams also secured their places at the Olympic after dominating the three days tournament at at Stade Louis II.

In the final match, Ireland took the lead in the qualifier final through Terry Kennedy, but Stephen Parez and Paulin Riva gave France a 12-7 lead at half time. However the Irish men made a comeback after the break. Two tries by Jordan Conroy and another by Harry McNulty sent Ireland to their first ever Olympic.


In the women qualifiers, France beat Hong Kong 51-0 to confirm their return to the Games with Anne-Cécile CiofaniChloe Jacquet and Séraphine Okemba on the score sheet. Russia women will also make their Olympic debut in Japan next month after a 38-0 victory against Kazakhstan.
