KELANTAN, KEDAH CLAIM HONOURS AT NATIONAL SEVENS

Kelantan won the Malaysia National Sevens Rugby Championship after defeating Perak 19-14 in the final on Sunday. The 2014 & 2015 winner lifted the Ung Kek Cheow Cup again at the Ipoh Padang.

Kelantan went into the final as favourite with five players from the golden SEA Games squad are in the their line-ups. They stunned the home side with an incredible 19-0 advantage in the first half. Perak came back stronger after the break and scored 14 points before losing the final with just 5 points difference. Kelantan reached the final after beating Kedah 26-5 in the semis, while Perak hammered Sabah 26-0 in the last four. Kedah beat Sabah 28-17 to claim the third place finish.

In the women category, Kedah became the National Sevens Champions after winning all their final round matches. They beat Selangor 12-10, Sabah 15-5 and Terengganu 15-12. Terengganu finished as runners-up, and Sabah claimed the third place.

It was also a double joy for Kelantan Rugby as their juniors also won the National Sevens Under-20 category. They defeated Labuan 21-7 in the final, as Selangor beat Johor 33-28 to take the third place. A total of 38 teams took part in this year's National Sevens Championship.
