JOHOR AND TERENGGANU READY FOR HISTORY
For more than four decades, the Piala Agong has represented the pinnacle of Malaysian rugby.
Since 1983, the nation's most prestigious championship has produced unforgettable champions, dramatic moments, and fierce rivalries. Now, in its 42nd edition, the competition is ready for a grand finale worthy of its proud history.
After months of intense battles involving nine outstanding teams, only two remain unbeaten.
Johor versus Terengganu.
It is a dream final between two of the country's strongest teams, both arriving with momentum, confidence, and a burning desire to lift the trophy.
Neither side had an easy path to the final. Johor edged Kelantan 32-29 in a thrilling semifinal, securing victory with a dramatic last-play penalty. Terengganu's journey was equally dramatic as they stunned defending champions PDRM 22-20, with Nasharuddin Ismail scoring a last-minute try that sent the unbeaten side into celebration.
Now, only one challenge remains.
Terengganu enter the final as a disciplined and resilient team. Champions in 2019 and runners-up in 2022, they have steadily grown into one of Malaysia's rugby powerhouses. Guided by head coach Hafiizh Zainal, the team is inspired by experienced leaders such as Syahir Ashraf, Timoci Vunimoku, Nasharuddin Ismail, and Md Faizal Tahir.
Standing opposite them is a determined Johor side desperate to end years of heartbreak. After finishing runners-up in both 2024 and 2025, Johor have returned stronger than ever. Led by head coach Rodney So'oialo and stars Tim Nanai-Williams, Amirul Mukminin, and Sameer Surinder, they believe their moment has finally arrived.
This Sunday, Stadium UiTM in Shah Alam will become the centre of Malaysian rugby. Thousands of supporters are expected to fill the stands as two unbeaten teams battle for glory.
One team will celebrate. One team will make history. This is more than a final. This is Piala Agong, the very best of Malaysian rugby.
