ASIA RUGBY SEVENS SERIES: HONG KONG AND CHINA CLAIM TOP HONORS IN HANGZHOU
Hong Kong has once again showcased its rugby prowess in the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2024, clinching victory in the final against Japan with a score of 24-19. This victory marks their second consecutive triumph in Asia's most prestigious rugby sevens competition. Host China beat Korea 38-0 to claim the third-place finish.
Hong Kong continued their good run and remain undefeated in the series this year. After winning all matches on day 1, Hong Kong showed class to win their second consecutive Asia Rugby series at Hangzhou. Hugo Stiles was the top point contributor for Hong Kong with 37 points. China beat Korea 38-0 to claim the third place on their own soil. Changshun Shan was the star of the series after scoring 42 points for China with 4 tries and 11 conversions.
In the Women's Series, China clinched victory after beating Japan 24-17 in the final. China thrashed Hong Kong 48-0 in the semifinals, while Japan edged Thailand 10-7. However, Thailand finished third after defeating Hong Kong 32-7. Wakana Akita of Japan was the top point scorer of the series with 45 points from 9 tries.
The Asia Rugby Sevens Series is the premier sevens tournament for rugby in Asia. The final leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series will be held in Bangkok on 9-10 November 2024. The series features the top eight men and women teams in Asia.
