TEN THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT MARCELL JACOBS

We all know by now that Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs Jr. won the 100m Gold at Tokyo Olympics. He is the one who win it, filling the gap after Usain Bolt’s 13 years total domination of the sport until his retirement after Rio Olympics in 2016.

Here are the 10 things you probably didn’t know about him.

1. The historic win broke the total USA and Jamaica duopoly in the sports since Jonathan Bailey from Canada won it in 2016 and only the second European since Linford Christie Great Britain in 2002

2. He was brought up by his mother when his father, an army transferred to South Korea when he was just 3 weeks old. In school, when the teacher asked him to draw his family, Marcell Jacobs only traced his mother, and he suffered. "I hated him for missing, I reversed the perspective: he gave me life, crazy muscles, speed”

3. Hashtag #JacobsTamberi was trending all over the social media meaning that Italy won 2 golds in the span of 5 minutes apart. Gianmarco Tamberi won the Gold when his Qatari competitor agreed for a rare joint Gold in the Triple Jump category

4. Marcell Jacobs was born in Texas USA and was raised in Italy. Interestingly the last European winner was born in Jamaica and raised in Great Britain

5. Marcell could also win it against Bolt if he is still competing. For the record Usain won in Rio 2016 clocking 9.81 seconds

6. Jacobs started his career as a Long Jumper ranked 10th in the world in 2017

7. Jacobs is the only the 150th man in history to ever gone sub 10 seconds in May 2021 when he become the fastest Italian ever by clocking 9.95 in Savona

8. He  broke the Italian 100m records 3 times in 2021. Two more times in Tokyo during the semis and the final

9. The 9.80 seconds clocked in Tokyo is also the new European Record. He is the fastest person to ever run this race outside USA or Jamaica

10. Not a clear favorite, he was only given 3% chances of winning the century dash by the bookmakers but he ran to his glory not just for himself, but for his mom, his country and his continent.
