MERSING EAGLES STUN COBRA IN MRL PREMIER

MRL PREMIER: COBRA 5 - MERSING EAGLES 52 Cobra had a major shock on Saturday as they went down to 5-52 to Mersing Eagles . The Selangor based club could not find the answer to the Eagles fine performance. Mersing Eagles took the lead just after 1 minute through a try by Tanoa Apolosi Tuiloma . From there on, they never look back and scored 33 points until the break. With many key players missing, Cobra could only get one try in the 34th minute through Muhammad Nabil Amirul Rizan . Mersing Eagles kept on pressing over the unsettled Cobra. They made 8 tries and 6 conversions in total throughout the match to finish-off Cobra's hopes. UITM HOLD LEAGUE LEADER KUALA LUMPUR IN SELAYANG

LIGA PERDANA: KUALA LUMPUR 1 - UiTM 1    Kuala Lumpur remained unbeaten after three fixtures of Liga Perdana despite being held to a 1-1 draw by UiTM FC at Selayang Stadium, last night. UiTM stunned the home team after four minutes into the second half through Akanni Sunday .  He gave the visitor a lead until KL equalised in the 80th minute of the match. Guilherme De Paula of Kuala Lumpur had again saved the team with his equaliser. Kuala Lumpur had won 2-1 against Sabah on the previous away match.  Where, De Paula scored the winning goal in the last two minutes. IIUM MUSTANGS CRUSH ISKANDAR TROOPERS IN OPENER

MRL DIVISION 1: IIUM MUSTANGS 48 - ISKANDAR TROOPERS 7 IIUM Mustangs started their Malaysia Rugby League  (MRL) campaign in style by defeating Iskandar Troopers in Gombak on Saturday. The home side showed class as they controlled the match throughout the match. The Mustangs gave no chance to the visitors and took a strong half-time lead 22-0. Muhd Nafis Abd Khalid made three tries and Muhammad Harith Izzuddin got two tries for IIUM Mustangs. Iskandar Troopers got a late consolation with a try by Almando Tom and conversion by Muhammad Amirrudin six minutes before the final whistle. The Mustangs picked 26 points in the second half to seal the MRL opening day victory.

JAZZ CAPTURES MAIDEN ASIAN TOUR WIN IN BANGLADESH

Young Thai talent Jazz Janewattananond cruised to his maiden Asian Tour victory after closing with a flawless four-under-par 67 to win by four shots at the US$300,000 Bashundhara Bangladesh Open on Saturday. The 21-year-old Thai, who started the round with a four-shot advantage, showed nerves of steel as he completed a sensational wire-to-wire victory at the Kurmitola Golf Club with a winning total of 17-under-par 267. Jazz was delighted to get his career back on track after failing to keep his Asian Tour card for the first time in his career last season where he finished 63rd on the Order of Merit. He returned to the Qualifying School last month but did not manage to secure his card. MRL DIVISION 2: HOME OF WARRIORS 7 - VIOBA BLUES 8 VIOBA Blues earned a good start in Malaysia Rugby League Division 2 after a narrow 8-7 win over the Home Of Warriors in Kuala Pilah on Saturday. The VI Oldboys took advantage in the heavy downpour to control the first half. The home side were struggling to find their pace as Mohammad Aqil Mahat scored VIOBA's first penalty after ten minutes. Wan Ameer Naqiuddin pulled his team further with a try eleven minutes later. The Warriors looked more organize after the break. They made some good attempts and got a try in the 57th minute through Muhammad Afit Haqimie . The fullback made no mistake from the spot to reduce the deficit. VIOBA held tight as Home Of Warriors went all out. The score remained until the final whistle and VIOBA walked away with a deserved win. NS WANDERERS FIGHT BACK TO WIN FIRST MATCH

MRL PREMIER: NS WANDERERS 41 - POLITEKNIK MALAYSIA 31 NS Wanderers fought back in the second half to claim their first win of the season. The Wanderers were 20-24 down after the first half, but they showed determination to overturn the match into a 41-31 victory. Politeknik Malaysia played a very strong game in the first forty minutes. Tries by their Fijian imports, Ratu Esala Karavakinisiga and Ilaisa Uluinatewa put them ahead. However, Amirul Sani , Mohd Azmir Zainul Abidin and Samuela Tamanisau made the difference for NS Wanderers. They contributed 21 points in the second half to steer their team to a good start for the season. Team manager Fatin Jalil , and coach Raimi Yusof were delighted with their team fighting spirit. The results from Malaysian Rugby League brand new season have thrown up some interesting scenarios for this week's 1st Round outing. As the league kicked-off today, immediately we saw some upsets and surprises. Further proved there are a lot more in store in this exciting season New comer ASAS and NS Wanderers have laid down their strong intentions for the series moving forward; and it's hard to decide if KL Saracens is just that good or if Mustangs have it what it takes in them? Serdang Angels and UiTM Lions are all just ironing out a few kinks before putting some consistency in performance on the field. Will Home of Warriors have a breakout first day in front of a raucous home crowd defying the odds against youth and inexperience?
