ENGLAND IN LAST EIGHT AFTER WIN AGAINST ARGENTINA

Image
England secured their place in the World Cup quarter-finals after a convincing 39-10 victory over Argentina at the Tokyo Stadium. The South Americans were forced to play 63 minutes with only 14 men after Lavanini was sent off by referee Nigel Owens for a high challenge in which he struck Owen Farrell 's jaw with his shoulder. It was the fifth red card of a tournament that is being played against the backdrop of World Rugby's crackdown on dangerous tackles and the second in which Farrell was the victim following the dismissal of the USA's John Quill in similar circumstances. After showing early signs of using the setback to mount meaningful resistance, Argentina fell away as England attacked with width, Jonny May and Elliot Daly helping themselves to tries. When the superb George Ford raced over shortly after half-time it was all over for the Pumas , who are effectively out of the World Cup after suffering a second defeat in Pool C. England have now won t

SPRINGBOKS CRUISE TO VICTORY OVER ITALY

Image
South Africa trounced Italy 49-3 in Shizuoka to keep their Rugby World Cup hopes alive. Handre Pollard converted tries from Cheslin Kolbe and Mbongeni Mbonambi , and added a penalty to put the Springboks 17-3 up at the break. Italy prop Andrea Lovotti was sent off for dangerous play in the opening minutes of the second half. Lovotti lifted South Africa's Duane Vermeulen off his feet and speared him into the ground, head-first, for the fourth red card at this World Cup. After Lovotti was dismissed, Kolbe crossed for his second score. Lukhanyo Am , Makazole Mapimpi , RG Snyman and Malcolm Marx also went over as South Africa went top of Pool B. Italy are just about out of the World Cup. They need to beat defending champions New Zealand in their last pool game to have a chance of making the quarters. Best Sports Updates at The Match

WALES DENY AUSTRALIA COMEBACK TO CLAIM CRUCIAL WIN

Image
Wales put themselves as title contenders with one foot in the World Cup quarterfinals after stunning Australia 29-25 at Tokyo Stadium. The second successive win took the Six Nations champions to the top of Pool D which could lead them to a last-eight clash against France or Argentina . Australia, though, might be hurtling towards a knockout tie with England , who are coached by former Wallabies boss Eddie Jones , despite staging a spectacular second-half fightback. Wales looked home and dry when they led 26-8 through tries by centre Hadleigh Parkes and scrum-half Gareth Davies . Fly-halves Dan Biggar and Rhys Patchell kicked 19 points between them - Patchell contributed 14 after replacing Biggar, who went off for a head injury assessment - but Australia got it back to one point at 26-25. Patchell penalty in the last ten minutes sealed Wales first RWC victory over Australia since 1987. Get Sports Updates!

URUGUAY STUN FIJI AT RUGBY WORLD CUP

Image
The 2019 Rugby World Cup delivered its first major shock as minnows Uruguay held on for a historic 30-27 victory over Fiji . Uruguay had not won a World Cup match since beating Georgia in 2003 and tears flowed after the referee blew the final whistle, sparking huge celebrations from the winning camp. No one had expected this result. The last time these two teams faced each other Fiji stormed to a comfortable 68-7 victory but it was a different story in the Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium , a venue built in memory of those killed in the 2011 tsunami. It was the biggest score Uruguay has ever recorded in a World Cup game and it was well worthy of the win against a Fiji side who failed to impress. The game started at a hurtling pace with both sides registering an early try but it was Uruguay that emerged as the surprise 24-12 leaders at halftime. Scores from Juan Manuel Cat , Manuel Diana and Santiago Arata punished a sloppy Fijian outfit that wasted a number of opport

MANU TUILAGI STARS AS ENGLAND BEAT TONGA

Image
England bagged their first win in the 2019 Rugby World Cup by defeating Tonga with a 35-3 victory. It is England's third win over Tonga in Rugby World Cup history. Manu Tuilagi plundered two first-half tries at the Sapporo Dome after repeatedly forcing a path through the Islanders' defence to emerge as the otherwise ragged 2003 champions' most potent threat. Jamie George and Luke Cowan-Dickie got another two tries in the second half. Owen Farrell made six successful kicks to deliver 15 points for the lions. Tonga got their only points through Sonatane Takulua 's penalty in the 14th minute. The match ended with Tonga pouring forward in search of a deserved try and they will be emboldened by their success in frustrating England's strongest available side. RUGBY FOR ALL
