SOUTH AFRICA BEAT RESURGENT FRANCE TO WIN HSBC CANADA SEVENS

South Africa claimed their first tournament victory since Paris last season by beating France 21-12 in the final of the HSBC Canada Sevens in Vancouver. The two teams had never previously met in a Cup final and Pierre Gilles Lakafia ’s early try forced South Africa to come from behind but they stood up impressively, putting three converted tries on France before conceding again. Selvyn Davids ran more than half the field to set up Impi Visser beneath the posts, Werner Kok stole the ball to set up Davids three minutes into first-half overtime, before Kok got on the scoresheet himself on the left-hand side. Stephen Parez scored a late consolation try, which is the 295th of the weekend and the most in a stage this season — with a remarkable run down the left, but it wasn’t enough to get his side back into the game. PERAK CLAIM FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Perak edged PJ City FC to claim their first win in Liga Super this season. However, the maiden victory did not come easy for the Bos Gaurus despite playing at their home ground. PJ City gave a good fight before going down in Ipoh. Perak started well but the strikers could not beat PJ City's solid defence. Then the real opportunity came in the 37th minute when Mohd Nor Hakim was brought down inside the penalty area. Wander Luiz Bitencourt Jr made no mistake from the spot to beat Mohd Muhaimin Mohamad and put his team ahead. The home side got more chances in the second half. Wander Luiz attempt in the 51st minute was saved by Muhaimin. Nor Hakim also failed to find the net with his header in the 74th minute. Safee Sali and Sergio Nascimento also had their chances, but Perak's goalkeeper  Muhammad Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy was at his best. The 1-0 score remained until the final whistle, and Mehmet Durakovic has finally found his winning touch.

POLIS BERSATU END COBRA'S GOOD RUN

Polis Bersatu ended Cobra Development team impressive run in Malaysia Rugby League (MRL) Division One with a 36-24 victory. The Police team displayed maturity and experience to overcome the young and energetic young Cobras. Polis Bersatu opened the scoring with two converted tries through Mohd Nortakzim Adnan and Muhammad Jackey Sudin . Cobra got into the game in the 37th minutes with a try by Tavuto Timochi . Polis Bersatu lead at half time with 14-7 score. The match was more entertaining after the break. Cobra equalised through Simolo Aca and Ahmad Amirul Zulfiqar five minutes after the restart. However Polis Bersatu responded with three tries from Muhammad Fadhil Hanafi , Jackey and Naelesoni Navuase Nasokitabua . Cobra got scored two more tries but the kickers could not deliver the extra points. Both teams qualified for the quarterfinals, but Polis Bersatu will get the easier opponent based on their good ranking.

ASAS RC EDGE NS WANDERERS IN SERDANG

ASAS RC showed a lot of determination to beat NS Wanderers 26-24 in the Malaysia Rugby League (MRL) Premier on Sunday. The 2017 finalist fought back to win the nail-biting match against two times champions NS Wanderers in Serdang. Both sides were solid in the first twenty minutes. However, NS Wanderers managed to score the first try in the 24th minutes through Atalasio Muakalou . ASAS RC replied with a try by Ras Suhael Nur Rahim ten minutes later. Though the Wanderers went into the break with 10-5 lead, thanks to a successful coversion and a penalty by Muhamad Amirul Aqil Kamsol . ASAS RC came back stronger in the second half. Two converted tries by Hazim Fadilafadil and Simiai Cece Nawaqa , and a penalty try gave them the lead. MELAKA UNITED BEAT KUALA LUMPUR WITH TWO QUICK GOALS

Melaka United claimed their third win in the Liga Super as they defeated bottom team  Kuala Lumpur 2-0. Darko Markovic and Nazrin Nawi scored two quick goals in the 14th and 16th minute to secure the win at the Hang Jebat Stadium on Sunday. Top striker Guilherme de Paula was not in Kuala Lumpur's line-ups due to injury. Melaka were dominant on their home ground with Markovic, Nazrin and Anselmo da Silva continuously threatening the visitors. Markovic put Melaka ahead with a header from close range in the 14th minute. While Kuala Lumpur were still struggling to settle down, Nazrin doubled the lead with a solo effort two minutes later. Melaka slowed down after the break, but Kuala Lumpur still could not find the net. Nazrin and Da Silva had the opportunities to add more goals, but Kuala Lumpur defended well. PAHANG HAMMER PKNP IN MANJUNG

Pahang proved themselves as the team to beat this season after a convincing 3-0 victory over PKNP FC in Manjung last night. PKNP made the same mistake as they did against PKNS by conceding an early goal from Jose Eduardo Bischofe in the first minute. A quick move by Norshahrul Idlan Talaha from the left side found Jose Eduardo. The striker made no mistake to beat Shafiq Afifi Suhaimi for Pahang's first goal. Dickson Nwakaeme doubled the advantage three minutes after the break with a powerful shot. However, the striker was taken out two minutes later due to injury. As PKNP tried to get back into the game, Norshahrul beat Shafiq again to score Pahang's third goal of the night. The win keep Pahang close to league leader Johor DT in Liga Super . NEGERI SEMBILAN, PULAU PINANG SHARE POINTS

Negeri Sembilan and Pulau Pinang shared points after their Liga Super match at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Seremban ended with a 1-1 draw. The home side opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Japan's Shunsuke Nakatake fired a powerful free kick to beat Muhammad Hazrull Hafiz Zulkifly . Both teams tried to get more goals but failed to find the net. Pulau Pinang came back stronger after the break. They were more organized and increased the pressure on Negeri Sembilan. The equalizer finally came in the 67th minute. Argentinian star, Julian Bottaro tapped in a perfect pass to level the score. As Negeri Sembilan were searching the winner, Aroon Kumar Ramaloo was given the marching order for a second yellow card in the 89th minute. The score remained until the final whistle.
