SALAH WINS PGM CCM RAHMAN PUTRA CHAMPIONSHIP

Josh Salah of the United States claimed a hard earned victory at the PGM CCM Rahman Putra Championship after shooting a six-under-par 66 on Saturday. The 24-year-old won by a mere stroke, thanks to two closing birdies, to finish on 17-under-par 271, defeating Shunya Takeyasu (70) of Japan at the RM200,000 (approximately US$46,600) Asian Development Tour (ADT) event. Jordan Sherratt of Australia settled for third place after returning with a 71 for a 274 total while Soonsang Hong of Korea finished a further shot back in fourth position following a 69 at the Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia. Salah stayed patient despite numerous weather delays during the week and was rewarded with his first ADT title after completing 26 holes on Saturday. Trailing by four shots after the penultimate round, the American birdied the third hole before a bogey on the next hole ignited his title charge as he registered six birdies to cross the finishing line in style. KERIS CONLAY WIN TOUGH ENCOUNTER AGAINST ASAS

MRSL 2016: KERIS CONLAY 27 - ASAS RC 17 Keris Conlay overcame the tough challenge of ASAS Rugby Club to claim a 27-17 win in Bangi on Saturday. ASAS RC gave Keris Conlay a hard time by holding them 10-10 in the first half. ASAS RC took the lead after six minutes with a penalty by Mohd Amir Hadafi Mat Saad. They multipled their lead in the 20th minute when Aqif Muhammad Mohd Dahalan made a try, followed by a successful converion by Mohd Amir. But Keris Conlay responded with two tries by Mohd Khairul Aimi Mohd Nor and Jone Marawa Nasalo to level the score. Keris Conlay showed a lot of improvement in the second half. Jone Marawa made another try seven minutes after the match resumed, and Mohd Firdaus Abdul Manan scored for the conversion. Jone added more advantage for Keris Conlay with a 52nd minute try, and Mohd Fairuz Abd Rahman delivered the conversion. Mohd Fairuz made it tougher for ASAS RC by scoring another penalty in the 68th penalty. ASAS RC did not give up

SYAHIR LEADS COBRA TO VICTORY AGAIN

MRSL 2016: COBRA 27 - POLITEKNIK MALAYSIA 10 Mohd Syahir Asraf Rosli became the hero for Cobra Rugby Club as he made a hattrick of tries in their match against Politeknik Malaysia. Cobra displayed a very good performance to claim their second win in the Malaysia Rugby Super League (MRSL) 2016 season. Cobra took control of the match from the start and opened the scoring through a penalty by Muhamad Izzat Laila. They stretched the lead in the 19th minute when Mohd Syahir made his first try of the day. Muhamad Izzat made no mistake from the spot to give Cobra a comfortable 10-0 lead after just 20 minutes of play. Politeknik Malaysia showed a little sign of coming back with a penalty by Mohd Amir Aswad Mat Saad two minutes before the break. Cobra came on into the second half with the right attitude. Mohd Amin Jamaluddin try in the 54th minute put them further ahead. Politeknik Malaysia stayed in contention with a try in the 61st minute by Timoli Saini Koroi before Mohd Am

ITTHIPAT SEALS SECOND ADT VICTORY AT THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Thai youngster Itthipat Buranatanyarat rounded off a superb week after closing with a six-under-par 66 to win by three shots for his second Asian Development Tour (ADT) title at the US$100,000 Players Championship on Saturday.   The 22-year-old Thai compiled a career-best winning total of 20-under-par 268 at the Raffles Country Club's par-72 Palm course to take home the winner's prize purse of US$17,500 and six Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points.   The victory also earned him a prized spot at the US$1 million SMBC Singapore Open which will be played at the Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong course from January 28 to 31 next week.   Newcomer Suradit Yongcharoenchai, also of Thailand, signed for a 67 to take second place while overnight leader Tirawat Kaewsiribandit (71) slipped to third place with Filipino veteran Antonio Lascuna (67) on 272.   Starting the round with a one-shot deficit, Itthipat opened with three straight birdies to take over the lead from overnight leader

COBRA KICK-OFF MRSL CAMPAIGN WITH WIN

MRSL 2016: COBRA 39 - PANTHERS BLOWPIPES 22 Cobra got a good start in the new Malaysia Rugby Super League (MRSL) season after claiming a 39-22 win over Panthers Blowpipes. The 2015 MRSL runners-up showed a brilliant performance to claim a convincing victory in their season opening match at UKM Rugby field in Bangi. Mohd Amin Jamaluddin gave Cobra an early lead with a try after just two minutes into the game, and Ahmad Amirul Zulfiqar Ahmad Jeffry sent the ball through for the conversion. Cobra got another try in the 7th minute by Izzat Hazziq Baharudiin, before Ahmad Amirul made it 15-0 five minutes later through a penalty. Panthers Blowpipes started to settle down and made their moves. Tries by Sitiveni Waqa and Samuela Tamanisau brought them back into match. However Cobra took the slim 15-14 lead into the break. MERSING EAGLES CLAIM FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

MRSL 2016: MERSING EAGLE 21 - ASAS RC 17 Mersing Eagles took off with a flying performance to beat the hard fighting ASAS RC 21-17 on the Malaysia Rugby Super League (MRSL) 2016 opening day. ASAS RC did not give it easily as they displayed a great fighting spirit before going down narrowly to the Eagles. ASAS took the lead after 16 minutes with try by Aqif Muhammad Mohd Dahalan and Mohd Amir Hadafi Mat Saad made no mistake with with the conversion. However, two tries in the first half by Joshua Barak Kiniviliame gave Mersing Eagles a strong advantage over their opponent. Uliano Samunaka pulled the Eagles away with another try after the break, and Mohamad Nasharuddin Ismail scored the coversion to put them into the comfort zone. ASAS RC reduced the deficit to just four points after a try by Ilami Susu and conversion by Mohd Amir. However, Mersing Eagles managed to hold their lead until the final whistle. KERIS CONLAY WIN MRSL OPENING MATCH

MRSL 2016: KERIS CONLAY 14 - KL SARACENS 5 Keris Conlay kickstarted their Malaysia Rugby Super League (MRSL) 2016 campaign in style after recording a 14-5 victory over KL Saracens on Saturday. The defendind champions did not take it easy against the Saracens as they were 6-0 up after the first half. A brace of penalties scored by Mohd Fairuz Abd Rahman gave Keris Conlay the advantage. KL Saracens could not find the answer until the break. However, Tavis Smith gave Saracens a fighting chance early in the second half with a try in the 47th minute. Keris Conlay held on and pumped the pressure on Saracens. Jone Marawa Nasalo took his team in front again with a try in the 70th minute.
