GLADIATORS HELD BY PENANG IN SELAYANG

​​​ MALAYSIA CUP: ATM 1 - PULAU PINANG 1 ATM failed to capitalize their home advantage after being held by Pulau Pinang 1-1 at the Selayang Stadium last night. The Gladiators were unable to find the right rhythm against the Malaysia Cup underdogs. ​ Twenty minutes after the kick-off, ATM finally got a little bit of tune as they started to launch a number of attacks towards the visitors. Their efforts paid off when Hairuddin Omar beat Penang 's goalkeeper for the lead in the 26th minutes. Pulau Pinang did not give up. They managed to overcome further threats from ATM. Rafiuddin Roddin grabbed the equalizer one minute before the break after his strike beat Syed Adney . ​ ATM returned to the pitch aiming for a win. However, they were unable to display their real potential. ​​ MALAYSIA CUP: T-TEAM 1 - SELANGOR 2   Selangor traveled to Kuala Terengganu to kick-off their Mission 33 Malaysia Cup campaign. The Red Giants successfully earned their first win against T-Team after a hard fought match. Selangor tried to take control in this away fixture, but the home side was too hard to break.   The real excitement finally arrived in the second half. Patrich Wanggai finally found the net four minutes after restart to give T-Team the lead. ​​ Selangor doubled their efforts and piled-up the pressure on the home side. Andik Vermansah grabbed the equalizer in the 51st minute after his strike beat T-Team's goalkeeper. In did not take long for Selangor to add another goal. Just two minutes later, Paulo Rangel found the net again to put Selangor into the driving seat. T-Team tried to fight back, but Mehmet Durakovic 's men held on until the end. PAHANG CRUSH JDT II IN MALAYSIA CUP OPENER

​ MALAYSIA CUP: PAHANG 4 - JOHOR DTII 0   Defending champions Pahang opened their new Malaysia Cup campaign with an impressive 4-0 victory over JDTII . The home side did not take long to open the scoring as Dickson Nwakaeme found the net inside the first five minutes.   JDTII were struggling to find the right tune at the Darulmakmur Stadium. Matias Conti doubled the lead with a fine goal in the 38th minutes. Both team headed for the break with Pahang leading with 2 goals. ​ Pahang were in complete control in the second half. Dickson grabbed his second goal of the night as he beat JDTII's goalkeeper again in the 71st minute. It was a hard time for the visitors. Fauzi Roslan put more misery with The Elephants 's fourth goal after 2 minutes inside the injury time. The victory gave a perfect tonic to Zainal Abidin 's squad to retain the Malaysia Cup . GUNNERS WINS COMMUNITY SHIELD AFTER CRUSHING CITY

​​​ COMMUNITY SHIELD: ARSENAL 3 - MAN CITY 0 Arsenal kicked-off their new season with flying colours by overwhelming champions Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday. RORY MCILROY WINS PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

​ Rory McIlroy claimed his second straight major championship and fourth of his young career, rallying on the back nine in the PGA Championship . It was an all-star affair in the final day of 2014 major tournament with Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson all with a share of the lead on the back nine. The final two hours were filled with eagles and birdies, with tension and chaos. McIlroy became only the fourth player in the past century to win four majors at 25 or younger. The others were Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Bobby Jones, three of the game's greatest players. The final par was  the easiest shot he faced all day gave McIlroy a 3-under 68 to leave Mickelson by a stroke. Mickelson closed with a 66 and was runner-up for the ninth time in a major. Rickie Fowler became the first player in history to finish in the top five at all four majors without winning one. ​ ​ The 2014 world cup fever has already passed by a month ago but the spirit off football is still burning for Malaysia football fanS as the nation will experience the Malaysia Cup competition which will kick-off on 13th August 2014. The Malaysia Cup (Piala Malaysia) is an annual association football tournament in Malaysia. The cup was first held in 1921. The competition is currently played at the end of each year's football season, and is contested by the 16 most successful teams in Malaysia's football league the year. ​  Group A can be described as group of death. Defending champion, Pahang will face an uphill task to retain the title after been drawn with last year Super League champions, Lions XII, 2014 FA Cup finalist Felda United and a Premier League outfit JDT II . DAVID HORSEY TAKES RUSSIAN OPEN AFTER PLAYOFF WIN

​ David Horsey won a play-off against Damien McGrane to claim victory at the Russian Open . It is the first European Tour title in three years for the 29-year-old from Alderley Edge . The Englishman shared the overnight lead with Peter Whiteford heading into the final round at the Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club in Moscow, but both men tumbled out of the top spots while McGrane was cutting through the pack with seven birdies. The Irishman looked set to win needing just a par on the 18th, but he bogeyed the hole and Horsey found a birdie and an eagle in his last four holes to force the play-off. Only one extra hole was needed. McGrane found the greenside bunker on 18 before missing his putt from 10 feet, and Horsey duly wrapped up his third European Tour win by two-putting.
